Our Programs

Empowered Avoidance

The mainstay of treatment for food allergy is to avoid the culprit food(s). At E.A.T., we know how difficult this can be. We will provide close, personalized care and education, and ongoing monitoring for changes in food allergy sensitization through testing skin, blood, and oral sensitivity. We support the child and family across all stages of development, from infancy to adulthood, empowering each person to take control of their food allergy, and feel confident that they can promptly recognize and treat symptoms of an allergic reaction. All children are encouraged to enroll in this comprehensive program.

What’s included

  • Two in-office appointments per year

  • One oral food challenge per year

  • Unlimited telehealth as needed

  • Unlimited texting as needed

  • Quick prescription refills

  • Quick school/camp form completions

  • Monthly check-ins

  • Access to cutting edge food allergy research opportunities

Oral Immunotherapy (OIT)

Oral immunotherapy (OIT) provides desensitization to a food allergen by eating tiny amounts of the food under close medical supervision. We start with a micro-dose given in the office to make sure your child tolerates that tiny amount of the food. You will be trained and supported to confidently give that same dose at home each day. After a minimum of 2 weeks of home-dosing, you and your child will return for the next up-dose in the office. This process is repeated until your child reaches the goal maintenance dose.

Who is eligible

  • Physician-confirmed IgE-mediated food allergy

  • Willingness to take daily doses at home within the safety guidelines

  • Available for frequent up-dosing and observed in-office visits

What’s included

  • Everything in the Empowered Avoidance program PLUS:

  • Personalized, evidence-based desensitization plan for up to 3 foods

  • Safety optimization counseling

  • Initial dose and OIT training in-office

  • Build-up visits and safety monitoring every 2-4 weeks in-office

  • Maintenance visits every 3-6 months

  • Regular check-ins

  • 24/7 emergency contact

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)

Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) provides desensitization to a food allergen by holding micro-doses of liquid food allergen under the tongue to train the immune system to be less reactive to that food. The first dose is given in the office where you will be trained to confidently administer subsequent doses at home. Subsequent updosing can be done in-office or at home via telemedicine.

Xolair

Xolair (omalizumab) is a biologic treatment for food allergies. The term “biologic” means that this medicine targets a very specific part of the body’s biology. In the case of Xolair, it targets the allergic antibody known as IgE (immunoglobulin E). Xolair is injected every 2-4 weeks and mops up any IgE in the bloodstream to eliminate it from the body.

Since Xolair isn’t specific for any one food or environmental allergen, it reduces allergic symptoms caused by any IgE-mediated allergen. In fact, it has been approved to treat allergic asthma for almost 2 decades, and is also approved to treat chronic hives and allergic rhinitis with nasal polyps.

Xolair can be used alone to reduce the risk of allergic reactions to food, or can be used in conjunction with OIT or SLIT to improve the safety of these treatments.

Who is eligible
